To give another update on this. A lot of people that still experience crashes upon entering battle have this because of Horse Archers. So far T4 and T5 Khuzait Horse Archers are confirmed to be able to cause crashes. Leaving those troops in a city will allow you to fight if you have those with you.

The issues with game crashes when entering battles should be resolved. The Bandit Leader quest however still experiences this issue, so please beware.

Hi Juns, This mission is currently bugged after the 1.7.0 update from the base game. The developers are working on several fixes and this will be fixed asap. In the meanwhile you can still continue your other occupations, like chopping wood or fighting bandits.
