Troubleshooting Guide
Your game has crashed and you've received this error message? Then read this post on how to resolve this.

Error: Application crashed because a fatal error occurred while checking sound bank files.

Sound error.PNG
  1. Browse the Bannerlord installation folder "\steamapps\common\Mount & Blade II Bannerlord\Sounds".
  2. Delete the folder named "PC".
  3. Verify your game files through Steam. This will download the missing files and resolve the error.

Hello
I have this issue and despite following the guide and doing a clean install of bannerlord (deleting the whole folder, the folder in documents ,the appdata and the registry key) I still encounter the error upon booting the game with the file being *.bank , both in solo and multiplayer.

Edit/update: The issue seems to only happen when I start the game trough the launcher, by starting bannerlord.native.exe in the win64 shipping client, I don't encounter the issue

Error seems to be bluetooth headphones related.

The fix also didnt work for me. I turned off bluetooth on the computer and launched the game, it loaded fine. Then shut the game down and connected bluetooth again and now it loads all good.

I think my bluetooth headphones connected as the game was loading and it caused this error.

Windows changing the output device for sounds while an application is starting can indeed cause significant problems for the application.
