Companion only, feasable?

I know the premise, il would be crazy expensive and grindy as hell. But my question is: a companion equipped with the best armor I can find should be tougher then an high rank soldier, more resistant to damage. So if you multiply that for a party of 50 companions, you should have a very strong party. Could it work? In the single player game it is a viable option (with mod to have infinite companions). I know the perks are not stackable, I am just talking about the fisical presence of multiple customizable soldiers. I don't know if they armor get battered by the way, or stay intact.

Well.. You're limited to only 5 companions in your party at a time. You can store some in a town as well. So no huge companion army.
As for their combat skills, they're subpar. Somewhere between tier 3 and 4 if I recall, unless you have one with a combat perk.

They're not immune to getting their gear damaged, or stolen if you lose a fight. But if one were to dress them up with Unique (patreon) armor, that wouldn't be a problem anymore.

But considering they can't die, they can make for a great shield wall and personally I have quite a few with bows, and they don't disappoint me. So yeah, companions are worth it. As long as the enemy doesn't have overwhelming numbers, they should be a valuable asset in battle.
