Just spent a lot of time doing jobs in villages for money, I go to weaponsmith and buy weapons and armor, and the things that I can equip just disappear whenever I enter a battle to fight looters and the good stuff that I bought I cant even equip lmao, what am I supposed to do here

When you open your inventory, you actually have 2 outfits. A "Battle outfit" and "Civilian Outfit".
If you open the inventory inside a settlement, it will default to the civilian outfit (the hat), where opening your inventory on the campaign map will show your battle outfit (the helmet).
Most combat gear can't be equipped in the civilian outfit and will show as purple in your inventory. Which is what you were unknowingly trying to do.
