A ceasefire mechanic could be implemented for 24-48 hours depending on what both or alliances want in exchange either for gold or mutual agreement.
Obviously, both would need to agree on this and members of those factions are not able to enter castles, cities, or villages of the faction in which a ceasefire is signed.
I think this would be good for protection as people would not need to worry about a faction joining during one factions off hours and vice versa.
If the king/emperor/lord of a single faction is not online and a ceasefire is required or wanted then majority of vassals must vote in favor for a ceasefire to happen however this should require someone that is much higher in rank than vassals and vassals may only send a ceasefire offer if nobody higher than the vassal rank is online.
If nobody that is high ranking enough or one of the factions simply does not have enough vassals online, then an automatic ceasefire of 12 hours should be implemented. Just not to abuse the 12 hour ceasefire, it cannot be used more than once every day as people would just quit the game to get a 12 hour ceasefire. So that should have a cooldown as well.
Every faction should be given 3 unconditional ceasefires lasting for 2 hours each and a cooldown for those ceasefires for 4 hours.
If the right amount of what's demanded is given to the other faction for a ceasefire, then it should automatically be accepted as some might just abuse this mechanic, and decline the ceasefire, leaving the enemy vulnerable while their king might simply not be online at the time. / Enough gold to cover a day and a half's worth of costs for a kingdom/empire
Ideas for what could be demanded in a ceasefire agreement:
- Fiefs
- Gold
- Other types of resources such as, wood, iron, copper, food, etc.
This would greatly improve diplomacy, and give both sides to agree upon peace and also give both sides a chance to regroup, rethink tactics and strategies and to regather men, and resources.
This is just my opinion on what could be done to protect kingdoms during off hours.
